HALIFAX Nova Scotia Conservative Leader Jamie Baillie will try to win a seat in the legislature in a provincial byelection today in the riding of Cumberland South.
The Liberal candidate is police officer Ken Jackson while businessman Scott McKee is running for the New Democrats.
The vote became necessary after former Conservative cabinet minister Murray Scott resigned the seat.
Scott had represented the riding in the legislature for 12 years.
Heading into the byelection, the governing NDP holds 31 of the legislature's 52 seats while the Liberals have 12 and the Conservatives seven.
There is one Independent and one vacancy.
